W jednym z numerów magazynu Torii (nr 19 z grudnia 2013 roku) ukazał się niezwykle interesujący artykuł o muzen-e, czyli "obrazach okrucieństwa". Adrianna Wosińska, autorka tego artykułu, przybliża w nim jeden z "odłamów" drzeworytów ukiyo-e.
Przedstawione na nich obrazy nie należą do pięknych widoków, gdyż można na nich dostrzec wszelkiego rodzaju sceny okrutnych mordów. Temat mocno specyficzny i przeznaczony tylko dla dorosłych, ale dla mnie (przyznaje się bez bicia) intrygujący. Chcąc pogłębić swoją wiedzę, a także zaspokoić zwykłą ludzką ciekawość, zakupiłem album prezentujący te "krwawe" obrazy.
Na ponad 100 stronach możemy obcować z kontrowersyjną, japońską sztuką. Wszystkim zainteresowanym polecam ten album i na zachętę pokazuje kilka zdjęć. Cena na zagranicznych portalach to ok 110zł. Szkoda tylko, że książka nie jest w twardej oprawie.
Warto też wiedzieć, że nie jest to jedyna z książek Jacka Huntera traktująca o tej tematyce.

The most famous example of this genre remains Eimei Nijuhasshuku (1868) by the artists Yoshitoshi and Yoshiiku. Yoshiiku's violent contributions to this series are matched in horror by many other of his prints, ranging from news-sheet illustrations of misogynistic murder to kabuki scenes of torture and images of warriors harvesting severed heads in battle. Such gore-splashed pictures were also produced by numerous other artists, including Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, Yoshitoshi, Yoshiyuki, Kunichika, and the unsung creators of garish Osaka sex-crime news-sheets.
